Asus Taichi 21 DH71 Windows 8 Ultrabook Review

Asus, one of the finest PC makers has announced that its Taichi Ultrabook is now up for pre-order. The Asus Taichi Windows 8 Ultrabook - Asus Taichi 21 DH71 is no ordinary ultrabook but a 11.6-inch convertible tablet featuring dual touchscreens back-to-back. The dual screen is capable  of offering both,  the performance of notebook and convenience of  a tablet.

At first glance, when the lid is open, Asus Taichi 21 - DH71 looks like a thin and light ultrabook but as soon as the lid is closed, the device is transformed into a tablet. That's probably because it has 2 displays, one on each side! Asus claims that both screens have the capability to function independently and simultaneously, which hints the ultrabook plus tablet can be shared between two users easily.

The front-facing touchscreen panel offers a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and supports a 10-point multi-touch capability that allows a user to discover many ways for controlling Windows with his finger tips. For instance, one can double tap to open the desired documents, swipe to browse photos and pinch to zoom into maps. The base on the other hand, consists of a polished aluminum surface that is pleasing to look at as it is to the touch.

ASUS Taichi 21 DH71 Windows 8 Ultrabook Impressions

Asus primarily believes although many improvements has been made in the hardware of the devices, AUDIO or to put it in simple words the sound quality of a device is often put aside as a side subject to study. Audio is just as important as every other aspect of a laptop's specification! ASUS therefore attempts to change this notion and capitalize in this domain by introducing its Sonic Master technology.

SonicMaster is a standard that defines audio specifications based on usage scenarios and allows all audio applications achieve optimum performance. Studies reveal 80% of the applications people use on computers such as - watching TV, listening to music, using VoIP and playing games require sound. Hence, getting good sound quality is of utmost importance. Sonic Master technology using its Digital Signal Processing (DSP) fine-tunes the entire system and eliminates any flaws in sound reproduction, helping in delivering improved clarity volume resonance and more detailed sound. Efforts worth praising!

Next, Taichi DH71 is infused with third generation core processor - Intel Core i7 3517 U (1.9 GHz) a fast ULV-processor for laptops based on the Ivy Bridge architecture that leads to better utilization of CPU. The processor offers a base speed of 1.9 GHz that dynamically increases clock rates with Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz (for 2 active cores) and 3.0 GHz (for 1 active core).

Apart from this, the machine packs 128/256 GB of SATA3 SSD and an Intel GMA HD GPU.  Plus, it runs on Windows 8 (64-bit) operating system that sports a redesigned Start screeen featuring tiles that update real-time and capacitive touchscreen support to provide a unique user experience.

That's not all! Taichi even features ASUS Simple Show Technology that is capable of projecting movies and presentations to the external display while controlling them from an internal display. Really great!
