How To Set Google As Default Search In Vivaldi Browser

How To Set Google As Default Search In Vivaldi Browser

Vivaldi browser is not as popular as its rivals but it's definitely one of the better web browsers out there for Windows operating system as well as Mac. Vivaldi browser, although currently in Beta stage, is shaping up really well and offers many advanced features that you might not find in other popular browsers.

The current version of Vivaldi browser comes with Microsoft's Bing as the default search engine. As everyone knows, although Bing is fairly popular in the U.S, the search engine is barely used in other regions of the world partially because the search results are not as accurate as that are in the U.S and mostly because people haven't tried it yet.

If you're one of those users who prefer Google search, Yahoo! search or DuckDuckGo over the default Bing, you can set Google or DuckDuckGo as your default search engine in Vivaldi browser.

While Vivaldi allows you use a different search engine by clicking the small down arrow icon in the search box, selecting a different search engine in the search box is valid only for the current search. Once you restart the browser or open a new tab, the default search engine appears at the top of the list again.

Make Google, Yahoo, or DuckDuckGo default search engine

To make Google, DuckDuckGo or Yahoo as the default search engine Vivaldi browser, follow the directions given below.

Step 1: Launch Vivaldi browser, if it's not already running.

Step 2: Click the small gear icon located at the lower-left corner of the window to open Settings page. If you can't see the settings icon, click the Vivaldi icon located top left, click Tools, and then click Settings.

Step 3: Here, on the left-pane, click Search to view all supported search engines on the right-side.

Step 4: As you can see, Bing is selected by default. Move the mouse cursor on the Google entry to see the check icon, and then click on the same check icon to set it as the default search engine.

By default, it uses Google.com as the search engine, but if you prefer to have a different one, like Google.co.uk, click the edit icon which appears when you move the mouse cursor over Google entry and then enter the search URL as shown in the picture below.

As you can see in the above picture, you can click the Add new search engine button to add your favorite search engine to the list.

And if you haven't tried Vivaldi browser yet, we recommend you do so right away. You can even use the portable version of Vivaldi to give it a try without installing.
