Disable Avast! Antivirus Sounds & Voice Notifications

Avast recently released the final version of its newest Avast Antivirus Free 8 and Avast Internet Security 8 security programs. The free version of Avast Antivirus comes with tools to automatically update all installed programs on your PC and clean-up your web browser by removing unwanted add-ons and toolbars.

Users who are using Avast for a while probably aware of its desktop notifications and sound alerts. Avast Antivirus displays popup notification for update, warning, malware detection, and other Avast activities. Along with these popup notifications, by default Avast also generates sounds when a threat, suspicious item, and potentially unwanted program is detected.

Avast generates voice messages after the system start, when the scan is complete, and upon automatically updating the databases. While these sounds and voice messages help you know the Avast and your PC security status, some users may not want to hear alert sounds and want to disable them.

PC users who're using Avast can follow the below mentioned instructions to disable voice messages and sounds.

Step 1: Click on Avast icon running in the system tray to launch Avast user interface.

Step 2: Click Settings options in the upper-right corner to open Avast Settings.

Step 3: Here, in the left pane, click Sounds to options to enable and disable sound alerts and voice messages.

Step 4: Uncheck Enable avast! sounds option to disable all event sounds and voice messages. If you want to disable only voice messages, uncheck Use voiceover sounds (when available) option.

Step 5: Click OK button to save your settings. That's it! From now onwards, Avast won't generate sounds and voice messages to notify you about certain events and will continue to show popup notifications.

NOTE: You can disable popup notifications as well but we advice doing so because you might miss some virus and malware alerts.
