How To Run Windows Applications On Mac

Both Windows and Mac are fantastic operating systems. Although they each have their own advantages and disadvantages, Windows has much more applications than that for Mac and Linux. It's because of this primary reason, most of us have been using Windows and will continue to do so.

Computer users who have been using a Mac and looking for a way to install Windows apps on Mac will be glad to know that Mac users can now easily install and run applications that are developed for Windows on Mac in minutes. All you have to do is download and install WinOnX software from the Mac app store.

WinOnX is a paid software ($4.99), based on Wine project, for Mac OS X 10.6 or later and allows you install and run Windows applications on OS X without any hassles.

According to the developers of WinOnX, the current version (1.0.1) of WinOnX supports approximately 70 percent of Windows applications. Microsoft Office 2010, Paint.net, and Internet Explorer are some of the popular Windows applications that can't be installed through WinOnX.

In simple words, the current version of the program supports applications that are compatible with the good old Windows XP operating system. That is, if a program doesn't work on Windows XP, you can't install it on Mac as well.

Here is how to use WinOnX to install and run Windows applications on Mac:

Step 1: Head over to the WinOnX page on Mac App Store and purchase a copy. Once you confirm the purchase, the app will be automatically downloaded and installed onto your Mac.

(Unfortunately, a trial version of this program is not available yet. So, you have no option but to purchase a copy even if you would like to test-drive this app.)

Step 2: Download the Windows application that you would like to install.

Step 3: Browse to the Windows application installer that you have downloaded in step 2 and then double-click on it to begin installing the application through WinOnX.

Even though there are options to install Windows and Windows applications on OS X with the help of virtualization software, I personally prefer WinOnX to virtualization software. You might also like to learn how to install Windows 8 on Mac and run Android apps on Windows.
