No Sound on Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 10

Although Microsoft deprecated Internet Explorer with the release of Windows 10 and introduced the all-new browser named Microsoft Edge, some people still tend to use Internet Explorer because of work or some other reasons. Microsoft Edge was built for the modern web, for the modern usage of websites that render with new technologies, APIs and more. But some websites that work on an Intranet Network or even on the World Wide Web are still running on the older web standards, and hence sometimes it becomes difficult for the modern browsers to render these web pages properly. That is the reason why Microsoft still ships Internet Explorer 11 with Windows 10, and some people still use it.

No Sound on Internet Explorer 11

One of the issues some Internet Explorer users may face at times is that you cannot hear any sounds when a media file is playing on Internet Explorer. This happens while sounds is perfectly rendered by other browsers and other software like media players. To fix this, we have five fine methods. Let us check them out one by one.

1: Check if the sound is enabled in Internet Explorer Settings

First of all, start by opening Internet Explorer.

Then hit ALT + T or click on Tools in the menu bar to open the drop-down menu.

And then, click on Internet Options.

A new window of Internet Options will appear. Now, navigate to a tab labeled as Advanced.

Under the section named Multimedia, check the entry that says Play sounds in webpages.

Now, click OK to save the changes.

Reboot your PC for the changes to take an effect.

2: Clear Flash Player Settings

Search for Control Panel in the Cortana search box or hit WINKEY + X and then select Control Panel to open Control Panel.

Now, click on the View by drop-down and select Small Icons.

Click on Flash Player (32-bit) in order to open Flash Player settings.

A new window will now pop up. In that, navigate to the tab that says Advanced.

Under the Browsing Data and Settings section, hit the button that says Delete All…

It will open another window. Make sure to check Delete All Site Data and Settings and then click on Delete Data button situated at the bottom of the window.

Reboot your PC for the changes to take an effect.

3: Disable all the Internet Explorer Add-ons

Hit ALT + X and select Command Prompt (Admin)

Type the following command inside the console window and hit Enter

“%ProgramFiles%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe” -extoff

This will now launch Internet Explorer without add-ons.

At the bottom portion of the browser, it will give you an alert saying Add-ons are currently disabled. There, click on the button that says Manage Add-ons.

If you do not get that alert, hit ALT + T and then click on Manage Add-ons.

Now, click on All Add-ons under show in the left portion.

Hit CTRL + A to select all the add-ons and then click on the button that says Disable All.

Reboot your PC for the changes to take an effect.

Now, if your issue is fixed, it was one of the add-ons causing the issue. Now, try enabling the add-ons one by one to check which of them was causing the issue.

4: Uncheck ActiveX Filtering

Open Internet Explorer and then click on the gear icon (Settings) at the top right corner of the browser Window.

Click on Safety and then click on ActiveX Filtering.

This will disable the ActiveX Filtering.

Reboot you PC now and then check if the issue is fixed or not.

5: Verify the sound output from the Volume Mixer

Right click on the Speaker Icon on the taskbar while Internet Explorer is open.

Now click on Open Volume Mixer.

A new panel of Volume Mixer will now pop-up.

Verify if the volume for Internet Explorer is not disabled or muted. If the volume for Internet Explorer is low, increase it to the maximum.

Now check if your issue is fixed or not.
