TORCS An Open Source Car Racing Simulator Game

Those of you who like car racing simulator games may want to check out an open source game called TORCS. TORCS features more than 50 different cars, more than 20 tracks, and 50 opponents to race against.

The gameplay allows different types of races from the simple practice session, up to the championship and features a simple damage model, collisions, wheel properties, aerodynamics, etc.

You can steer using a steering wheel or a joystick, if the device is supported by your computer. But you can also use the mouse or the keyboard, to drive the cars.

The simulation features a simple damage model, collisions, tyre and wheel properties, aerodynamics and lets you race against upto 3 other friends of yours - in the split screen mode too!

This free, multi-platform Open Racing Car Simulator can be used as an ordinary car racing game, as a AI racing game and as a research platform too. It runs on Windows, Mac OS X, FreeBSD and Linux.
